How It Works

Calculation Method

The energy cost estimator calculates running costs using these steps:

  1. Daily energy = wattage × hours per day ÷ 1000 (kWh)
  2. Daily cost = daily energy × rate per kWh
  3. Monthly cost = daily cost × 30 days
  4. Yearly cost = daily cost × 365 days
Common Appliance Wattages
  • LED light bulb: 8–15 W
  • Incandescent bulb: 40–100 W
  • Laptop: 30–70 W
  • Desktop computer: 100–300 W
  • Refrigerator: 100–200 W
  • Air conditioner: 1000–3500 W
  • Space heater: 1000–1500 W
  • Washing machine: 400–600 W
  • Electric oven: 2000–3000 W
Tips
  • Check your electricity bill for the exact rate per kWh in your area
  • Appliance wattage is typically listed on a label on the device
  • Devices on standby still consume power (1–10 W typically)
  • Energy-efficient appliances can significantly reduce annual costs
